Since finishing our history project, we have moved on to persuasive texts! We are taking this one step at a time in order for our speeches to be as powerful as possible. Last week, we just brainstormed ideas and wrote down ideas. Today, we have started learning about the layout of a speech and learned how to write an effective introduction. We are filling out graphic organizers and putting ideas and points on paper. Later on this week or next week, we will put our rough draft of our speeches together in one cohesive speech. Then learn about the editing process, and finally have a perfected, persuasive speech! Below are some resources to help guide you! https://www.wikihow.com/Write-an-Introduction-for-a-Persuasive-Speech https://www.thoughtco.com/how-to-write-a-persuasive-speech-1857488 https://www.slideshare.net/jmillspaugh/writing-your-introduction-transitions-and-conclusion?next_slideshow=1

We will be starting a research project for the history portion of humanities. You must use your time wisely, as we are quickly running out of time for this term. This will be a partner project (12 groups of 2 and one group of 3). As we learned from out wetland dioramas, it is essential to use a checklist to ensure you have ALL REQUIREMENTS, and a graphic organizer to keep your information organized. I will be grading you on your research skills, all parts of your written texts (which includes the ability to put this information in your own words, writing conventions such as punctuation, capitalization and spelling, sentence structure), organization, your ability to show information in a variety of different media, and speaking skills when you are presenting this project in our class gallery walk . Your ability to work harmoniously in a group will also come into play. This is an extensive project with many outcomes that I expect you will take seriously and not waste time in class doing. You will not be given extensions or excuses UNLESS it is family related and I will require a note from home. If you do miss class time while we are working on this, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WORKING ON IT AT HOME AND COMPLETE ALL PARTS.
Here are some websites that may help you in your search. Remember to WRITE DOWN ALL WEBSITES USED (including these if you use them)

We started with some Halloween poems, and a writing check-in in the form of a picture prompt where we wrote a story based on this picture. We will continue to learn about different types of poetry, homophones, figurative language, and continue building on our skills of organization, sentence structure and conventions in our everyday writing.
We have started learning about the 6 Canadian regions, which are:
1. Atlantic Region 2. Great Lakes Lowlands and St.Lawrence Region 3. Canadian Shield 4. Interior Plains (Prairies) 5. Cordillera Region 6. Arctic Region We will be learning about these in class and there will be a final project (to be announced in the coming days) after we've learned a bit about them. We had our provinces and capital cities quiz today. They will be graded and sent home this week. Please sign them and send them back in their binders.
I've attached the map of Canadian provinces (numbered) and the capital cities (stars) if you lost your copy or if you would like to continue practicing. We will be having a quiz on this (I will let you all know when and give lots of time to prepare) where I do look for spelling (especially capital letters, as these are proper nouns). Do you best :)
We started a project today in groups where we are drawing (free-hand, with resources) and are eventually creating a 3D model of Canada. This project will take weeks, as we are going to add to our map when we learn something new about Canada. This will take time and patience and I will make sure you are all doing your best to complete this project.
The goal for this project is to build a 3D version of Canada in your group. Rules:
Today, Friday September 14th you will:
Today, Wednesday, Sept. 19th - finish outlining Canada if not already done so - Glue the wool along the lines of Canada (measure and cut to exact lengths) - Create little labels for the provinces and capital cities |
